Comparisons of residence times between 1936 and 2001 indicate that the flushing efficency of the lagoon has deteriorated greatly during the past seven decades. Human activities (mostly reduction of river inflow and land reclamation) have incurred grea impacts on the deterioration of flushing efficency.
