Existing LA-MRSA strain data from the hospitals, held in the national TypeNed database, are used: genetic information is combined with the time and place at which the bacteria were found in order to find clusters. The criteria arrived at are tested against the existing LA-MRSA collection, and a workflow is then developed to apply them to newly found LA-MRSA. The intended product is a geographic visualisation of genetic LA-MRSA clusters per hospital and across hospitals, for infection prevention specialists. The motivation is that some hospitals in livestock-dense areas have relaxed their policy for patients who may carry LA-MRSA, and the safety of that policy needs monitoring."
